January 2025

As we step into 2025, I am honored and excited to serve as your Chapter President for PMI Southwest Virginia. Our chapter represents the diversity and strength of project management professionals across our region—united by a shared passion for innovation, growth, and collaboration. Building on the momentum of our transformative 2024, we're dedicating 2025 as our "Year of Connection."

Since 2003, our vision at PMI-SWVA has been clear: to be synonymous with world-class Project Management expertise and high business value delivery across Southwest Virginia. Our mission remains the same—to foster a community of Project Management excellence. As we move into 2025, we will continue to build on the incredible foundation laid in 2024, expanding our chapter's impact, diversity, and regional connections, ensuring we are supporting all project management professionals, no matter where they are located.

Reflections on 2024

In 2024, under the leadership of Past President Emma von der Lieth, we embraced a "Year of Transformation.” Our chapter grew to 375 members, marking a significant increase from 350 members at the start of the year. A highlight of our transformation journey was our annual symposium focused on "Transformation," featuring local and international thought leaders. We also strengthened our community ties through volunteer initiatives with Clean Valley Council and Habitat for Humanity, demonstrating our commitment to making a tangible difference in Southwest Virginia. These achievements have laid the foundation for deeper connections in 2025.

Our Vision and Goals for 2025: The Year of Connection

The Year of Connection represents our commitment to deepening relationships—both among our members and with our Southwest Virginia community. Our focus will be on:

Connected Community : Growing our chapter through accessible and engaging remote and in-person member connections while strengthening our regional impact through family-friendly events and volunteer initiatives across Roanoke, Lynchburg, and the New River Valley.

Fostering Growth : Expanding PMI-SWVA's reach through strategic partnerships with higher education and regional organizations across Southwest Virginia.

These goals reflect our ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and regional growth, ensuring that PMI-SWVA remains a vital resource and community for project management professionals throughout Southwest Virginia.

Grow Your Skills

It is particularly important for Project Managers to maintain and improve their project management knowledge and skills to stay competitive in the market. PMP certification is a critical component. As, during the resent years, project management discipline took a step toward more flexible and dynamic project management methodologies, in addition to the traditional waterfall approach, several new emerging methodologies became in high demand. Thus, training and credentialing in these methodologies became highly sought after among Project Management professionals. It is especially relevant in today's economic climate.
